Wood floors can be defined as three types:
Unfinished wood floors (also finished at the job site) receive a smooth, sanded finish and custom colors. Usually 2-3 coats of finish are applied requiring several days.
Pre-finished wood floors (also known as factory finished) generally install in under a day and is less messy compared to job-site finishing. You are limited to the manufacturer's colors, although factory finishes are very wear-resistant.
Wood accents are used to add unique accents and patterns in floor design.
Where is the room? Knowing where the floor will be installed is essential. Before choosing a floor, determine if the room is above, on, or below ground level. Engineered Hardwood Floors can be used in most areas including rooms below. on or above ground level. Solid wood floors are recommended for above ground level installations and must be nailed down to a wood subfloor. These floors perform better in humidity-controlled environments.
Is your sub-floor concrete or a type of wood substrate? Engineered floors are ideal for concrete slabs. For remodel projects you may want to consider engineered wood floors that can be floated directly over the existing floor, which eliminates the mess and additional costs of tearing out the old floor.
Product Features
Species - Some trees have bold grain patterns, such as oak, and are associated with an informal or a country look. Others, such as maple and birth, have a subtle, more refined grain and tend to be found in a more traditional setting.
Shade Variation - Darker tones can give you a more formal or traditional feel, while lighter tones complete the more casual room. The shade of your floor can also be inspired by a color of fabric, a piece of art, or a beautiful countertop.
Gloss Level - The gloss level refers to the finish and visual sheen of the product. It ranges from a smooth, soft satin to a crisp and glassy, high gloss.
Edge Profile - The edge style of the wood floor you choose does matter. Square edge boards fit flush against each other for a smooth, elegant feel. A full bevel or micro bevel edge creates an agled effect with depth and dimension.
Board Width - Hardwood comes in varying widths from 2-1/4" all the way to 5" or even wider. These widths can convey either a sophisticated or a casual look and can coordinate with whatever decor you choose for your room.
Grade Level - If you're installing wood floors in a basement or other room that might be exposed to moisture, look for "all grades" flooring.
Trim Options - You'll be amazed how a simple addition of the perfect trim can finish your room with a professional edge.
Installation - Our installers will deliver on our promise of installation excellence.
